London NW3 - Domestic Couple: Housekeeper/Child-Minder/Gardener/Driver/ Handyman –
live-in during holidays, live-out (in accommodation provided nearby) when family in residence
Lovely family, established clients of Hutchinson’s, with a record of thirty years as successful employers of long-term domestic staff, are seeking a Domestic Couple for their main home in Belsize Park, a recently-refurbished, large house. This is a busy family: there are five children, aged from 5 to 21, most living at home part of the time, when not away at school/university.
It is essential that you are both fit and flexible, with common sense and an enthusiastic interest in children and young people. Accommodation will be provided year-round, but the role is live-out whilst the family is in residence and live-in during the long holidays when they are absent. You must both be competent drivers and confident to drive in London. A cheerful and helpful disposition is what is wanted, as well as a good work ethic and a highly responsible attitude. An ex-military background would be welcome and a record of sustained employment in domestic service is expected. This position is suited to a couple who wish to live in London and have a stable situation for some years.
The Housekeeper’s role will be to manage the house and the daily housekeeper/cleaner, do the shopping, do some cleaning and cooking, take children to and from school and extra-curricular activities, assist the younger children with homework. You would be expected to have some cooking skills, sufficient to assist Mrs with preparations for dinner parties. Also, you would need to be able to assist with administrative and secretarial tasks relating to the household.
The full-time daily housekeeper/cleaner does the bulk of the cleaning and laundry, also a nanny, who will be going on maternity leave later in the year.
The Gardener/Handyman/Driver will be tasked with looking after the recently-created garden, which is large by London standards. You should be able to perform basic handyman tasks, look after the cars, do some London driving as well as runs to the airport. Also, you will take the children to and from activities and offer general household assistance as required.
Hours will be 0730 to 1700 hours during term-time, 0900-1700 at holidays and weekends. During term-time, the Housekeeper will be expected to work alternate weekends and take time off in lieu during the holidays. Approximately five times a year, these weekends will be spent with the family in their holiday home in France, primarily to help with the children (the house is fully staffed locally.) You will also be asked to baby-sit about once a week.
The accommodation provided is a good quality, one-bedroom flat very near the house, to be your home whilst the family is in residence, provided on an all-found basis. It is, however, essential that one or both of you live-in at the main house whilst the family is away, even on your days off, for security reasons – about 10-15 weeks of the year, mainly during the long summer holidays, but also during occasional short breaks during the year. Obviously, this situation will not be suitable for anyone with dependants of their own, or with plans to start a family. No pets, no smokers.
A good basic salary is on offer, plus an annual bonus.
Excellent references and clean CRB checks as well as full, clean driver’s licences essential. Start date September/October. (HU3150)
